Inside The Treatment Room

Aging Gracefully: The Story Your Skin Tells

Lately, I’ve found myself having the same conversation over and over again—in the treatment room, on social media, and even in my own head.

What does it actually mean to age gracefully?

“Before and Afters”

We live in a world of edited photos, beauty filters, injectables, facelifts, and perfectly curated “before and afters.” Sometimes it feels like we’ve forgotten what a real human face is supposed to look like.

I often think about one of my favorite moments from Barbie. Barbie looks at an older woman sitting on a bench and simply says, “You’re beautiful.” The woman smiles and replies, “I know.”

I hope we all get to that place someday.

Those little lines around your eyes? They’re your face remembering years of laughter.

Your Skin Tells Your Story

The crease between your brows? Maybe it speaks to the worries you’ve carried, the problems you’ve solved, or the determination that got you through difficult seasons.

Sunspots, freckles, smile lines—they’re evidence that you’ve lived.

I’ll be honest: I’ve never loved my “11 lines.” As someone who has struggled with chronic migraines, they remind me of countless days spent unconsciously scrunching my face through the pain. For a long time, I wished they weren’t there.

But they’re part of my story.

They remind me that I kept showing up. I built a business. I raised my family. I celebrated victories, survived heartbreak, laughed until I cried, and kept moving forward despite the hard days.

As an esthetician, I sometimes feel the pressure too. There’s an unspoken expectation that if you’re “good” at skincare, you shouldn’t have wrinkles at all.

But that’s simply not true.

Healthy Skin and Aging Skin Are Not Opposites!

Wrinkles are normal.
Pigmentation is normal.
Texture is normal.

Of course I believe in sunscreen. I believe in great skincare. I believe in treatments that help you feel confident. And if Botox, filler, lasers, or surgery are part of what makes you feel like your best self, that’s your choice, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

But I also think it’s important to remember that aging is a privilege. Tomorrow isn’t promised to any of us.

Every line, every freckle, every bit of silver hair is proof that you’ve been given another day to love, learn, laugh, and live.

So yes, please, wear your SPF. Take care of your skin. Invest in yourself. Just don’t forget to celebrate the beautiful story your skin is already telling.
